Fishing Report - July 18, 2025

Dan Blackley

Upper River:

The flows out of Island Park reservoir are currently 1440CFS, a healthy amount of water moving through the upper river.  In Box Canyon you may still see Golden stones flying around, and a HF Foam Golden Stone is bringing fish to the surface.  Roza’s Pink Jig Hare’s Ears, Tungsten Jig Mike Drops and Jig Red Napolean’s are great dropper options. The Box is a great streamer fishing stretch. An old school streamer pattern, The Matuka in olive and tan have been bringing nice sized fish to the net. The river through Last Chance can be a good choice if the odds are with you. Some days the Gray Drakes are hatching along with caddis and Flavs. A long slow walk along the banks of the Ranch section may be rewarded with a nice fish or two rising to spinners, caddis, and flavs. Barrett’s Flav Spinner’s, Organza Upright Rusty Spinners and Spent Partridge Caddis may help fool a riser to take. As the dry warm weather persists think terrestrials, Jakes Gulp Beetle, Shimazaki Ants and Thunder Thigh Hoppers are all good choices.

Ashton Dam to St. Anthony:

Flows near Ashton are currently 2210CFS. The crowds have subsided on this fantastic stretch of river. Water temps are rising so please be cognizant of them and give the fish a rest during peak heat. Nymphing a Pat’s rubber leg with a Red Copper John trailer is a good selection when the water is cool enough to fish.

Madison River:

Flows are at 1350CFS near Cameron and the fishing is good. Golden Stones, random Salmonflies with a mix of Caddis are providing high quality fishing conditions. A Golden Stone Water Walker with a Duracell dropper have rewarded anglers with tight lines and hard fighting Madison River trout.

Teton River:

Flows on the Teton near St Anthony are 695cfs and water temperatures are hitting the mid 70 degree mark. Fish early and get off the river early if you choose to fish the Teton.

South Fork of the Snake:

The South Fork is fishing well, and many people are visiting the river in hopes of landing the fish of their lives. Peach Yellowstone Chubbies, HF Foam Salmonfly with a tungsten jig Pheasant Tail have been productive combinations. A bright shiny streamer, like a Coffey’s Sparkle Minnow or the Mongrel Meat white just might bring that lunker of your dreams to hand.

Happy fishing out there fellow anglers!
