Fishing Report - September 12, 2025
Dan BlackleyUpper Henrys Fork:
Flows coming out of Island Park Reservoir have dropped to approximately 430 CFS and the water is still rather turbid with algae and moss to deal with. The flows in the Box Canyon are low so wading is a great option. Nymphing and dead drifting sculpin patterns are brining a few fish to the net. Hopper dropper rigs should also produce a fish or two. Juicy Hoppers, pink or tan with a Duracell nymph is a good set up. Many folks are crossing their fingers that the Ranch will start producing. You might find fish rising to caddis, small mayfly spinners and the occasional Callibaetis. Throwing an ant pattern has picked up a fish or two over the past few weeks. Waiting on mahogany duns and clearer water.
Lower Henrys Fork:
Flows near Ashton are currently 1000 CFS and the fishing is starting to pick up. Hopper droppers are finding a few fish and the middle of the river might be your best bet with this tactic. Peach More or Less hoppers and a Mic Drop are producing a few fish. Nymphing can also be productive with a Pat’s Rubber Legs and bead head trailer like a Red Two Bit Hooker.
South Fork of the Snake:
The flow near Irwin is currently 8420 CFS wit the flows fluctuating the past few days. The Mutant stone frenzy has slowed down but the early bird angler might find some mutant seekers. Nymph rigs will be productive and Hopper Dropper rigs are good choices. Don’t forget your streamer rod, fish the structure on the banks, Goldies, Rusty Trombones and Li'l Kims might reward the meat chucker with a trophy trout.
Madison River:
The biggest hatches are behind us but the Madison is still fishing well. Terrestrials are getting the fish’s attention. Hoppers with a trailing ant is a good strategy, even with a sunken ant. Caddis are still bopping around and what trout can resist a Tan EZ caddis in the evening?
Teton River:
The Teton is quite low right now, at 400 CFS near St Anthony. Water temps are cooling down but still be cognizant of warming water temps as the day progresses. Stick to the upper portions of the river around Driggs and try ants, beetles and hoppers. Mahogany duns and Grey Drakes should make their appearances soon, be ready.
