Ashton Tailwater

Some of the most productive water on the Henry’s Fork is the stretch from the Ashton Dam downstream to the town of St Anthony. The trout numbers are high, and the trout grow big. Floating and wading access is good. Consequently, the river can be crowded, especially early in the season when aquatic insect hatches are abundant including Salmonflies, Golden Stones, Pale Morning Duns, Green Drakes, Flavs and caddisflies. Fishing pressure usually drops off later in the season when the aquatic insect hatches wane. Fishing nymphs, streamers and terrestrials can produce exceptional fishing throughout the season.

While there are large wild Rainbows, the largest trout are frequently Brown Trout. Like other pressured trout waters, these trout can be hard to catch. Our experienced guides know where they live and how to catch them. We are also privileged to have some private boat access sites that provide solitude.

The Ashton tailwater stretch is very popular with our guide clients for good reason. We highly recommend booking early if you want to request this stretch, especially in June.
