This pattern was originally developed by Doug Swisher and Carl Richards in their incredible book, Selective Trout. To this day it is one of the best, if not THE best mayfly pattern ever developed. It sometimes gets a bad rap for not being durable, not floating right or difficult to see. As far as durablility, natural duck quill is tougher than other natural wing materials. Duck quill is also impregnated with natural oil, much like CDC, only much more durable. The fly actually has a much better wing profile when the fibers split up. It can imitate a dun, emerger or cripple depending on how it's fished. It can be difficult to see, especially in smaller sizes. You can easily solve that by using it as a dropper, tied off the bend of a Parachute Adams, or another high-vis fly.
